Meet your new sales rep: a Website Chatbot, no less…
“A bot???”, you say…
Well, you may have noticed bots creeping into the world of websites.
So, is there a bot in your website’s future?
And more to the point, could it help you grow sales?
Here’s a quick guide to getting the most from your website chatbot:
1. No Visitors, No Chat
You need a solid stream of visitors to your site or you’ll just have a lonely chatbot, sucking profits from your bottom line.
2. Better Intel About Your Site
Interactions can give you insights into web visitors you can’t get any other way. For instance, a visitor recently told my bot exactly why he’d come to the site, and what he was looking for. That’s really valuable info that can help guide your content strategy.
3. You don’t just get leads on a silver platter
You need a team ready to step in where the bot leaves off. When the human on the other end of the conversation says, “Human please!”, you’d better have somebody on call to step in. Otherwise, you’re just wasting time and ticking off visitors.
4. They’re not cheap — It pays to shop
There are a bunch of bots out there now. Decide what you want it to do, then go shopping for the one that best fits your needs and budget. I happen to like Drift, but there are other less pricey (and less sophisticated) choices out there.
5. Let a sales rep “train” your bot
This is a biggie. Chances are, your best sales reps won’t have the patience to program your bot. On the other hand, you really need your sales rep’s “killer” instincts to write a bot script that gets the kind of responses you want. Don’t rely on your tech guy for that.
