More fun than cat bowling…

“Definition of an Entrepreneur: A guy who works 80 hours a week so he doesn’t have to work 40.”  ~  Thank you Jon Benson

Ever feel caught up in a trap of working too much, getting spread too thin?

The classic (dumb) formula is: Get good at something, quit your boss and start working for yourself, which all too often means working at half the pay for the craziest SOB in the world,..

Been there, done that – absolutely sucks…

So how to avoid this?

The problem all too often is we’re missing the “Value Equation” .

What it means:

Cost to produce is considerably less than price the market will bear, which (of course) is considerably less than target customer’s perceived value.

Without this equation solidly in place, off we go with a mediocre or even unwittingly negative return plan, and work and spend like hell to market and sell it.

How much easier and fun would it be to start with an awesome value equation to begin with?

Maybe a century or two ago, if you invented something new and exciting, like let’s say, a pencil eraser (well it was new at one point!), the world might beat a path to your door…

Not any more.

But selling becomes a whole lot easier and marketing ROI gets a whole lot better when you have an offer that delivers real value on one or more levels to your customer.

And when cost to produce is far enough below a viable price point, well that’s when the fun begins.

It’s actually basic Econ 101 (Except they never taught this, in any of the courses I took…)

Then, when you sit down to write copy for a promotion, you have a real offer.  Lot easier to sell.  Doesn’t matter how brilliant your copy is, if the offer stinks, it won’t fly.

With a great offer, even mediocre copy makes you look like David Ogilvy.

So as we head toward 2014 it’s good to ask, what’s the single greatest value opportunity in our market and how can we focus on that.

Once you have that down, implementation gets a whole lot easier.

And, with a viable value equation locked in, all you need to do is implement.

But, I hear you say… There’s the rub.

Implementation is the biggest bottleneck.  Getting it all done is the brick wall in your way.

Let’s fix that right now.

Being stuck or even slowed down is not what I want for you
